Un peu narcisiste
For a few years now, I've had a feature on the About Me page of my website where random photos of me are displayed each time the page is loaded. (It's the ghetto-est web wizardry of all time; I just name the images numerically and have a couple lines of javascript that call a random number from 1 to x and tack ".jpg" on the end.) I started out with maybe twenty pictures, and I add a few more from time to time whenever someone (usually me!) takes an especially flattering or glamorous or interesting or funny picture of me. It's really indefensibly vain of me, but it's fun.

Today I added the 100th picture of me to the random rotation. Balloons with my  face  abs on them fell out of the ceiling and everything.

I keep a hidden page with all the pictures together on it, just to keep track all of them. It's a weird walk down vanity lane, mostly chronomologicamable, sometimes not, with many changing hairstyles and hair colors, questionable fashion statements, exotic locales, inexplicable circumstances and behaviors, et cetera. For me it's mostly just a heartbreaking look at all the sunglasses I've lost or broken over the years. Anyway, the page with all one hundred pictures together is here, if you'd like to see. Like that weepy Hindenburg announcer guy said, "Oh, the huge vanity..."

I'm sure you're already aware of this, but in one of those pictures you look almost exactly like Andy Warhol. My favorite would have to be the hat and scarf series. I'm a very enthusiastic fan of hats and scarves.

Ha! In my own defense, you do know that one was on purpose, right?

As I went through those pictures, I really hoped that I'd been around when just one of them was taken. And I was! I was around for a couple and I EVEN TOOK ONE! This made me incredibly happy. I think this means that you have gone from being "my friend Manning" to "my celebrity friend Manning," as I have no other explanation for these feelings.

1. I had no idea which picture you meant and had to go figure it out!
2. I am very happy every time you use that icon!

Erica (electric_honey) and I just looked over these photos again. She told me that she'd wanted to comment but wasn't sure if you'd be offended. When she told me what she was going to say, I insisted she get in here and say it already.

1. I am so glad that AbortionSnowman could make it into your randomizer.
2. I like that icon, too! I was very happy visiting you in Paris! I will have to do it again!

No, but I did eat the piece of pumpkin pie pictured in this LJ icon in one big bite, and that started a bit of a Thanksgiving tradition that lasted... the next two years that I happened to be in the States for Thanksgiving.

Although I'd have to count to be sure, it seems that you're half-naked in at least half those shots. It's quasi-pornographic.

Yeah, I currently have seven or eight pairs here (and countless more in America), but I end up rotating the same two for some reason. Sunglasses are kind of seasonal for me.

Haha, yes, uncanny! You know, of all the times I get compared to dumb celebrities (Sting, Billy Idol, etc), I always think it's stupid and inaccurate, EXCEPT young Anthony Michael Hall. The resemblance, especially in pictures of me and him when we were both 13, respectively, is frightening.

Man, I'm planning a trip to the States in June, and walking around Paris this afternoon it dawned on me that I'm gonna have to knock it off with the scarves before I get over there! Somewhere over the Atlantic, I guess. I think the flight crew makes an announcement.

I adore the X-ray of course.

There's one where you have pink hair, and there's a shadow texture on your face and arm - I quite like the feeling of that one. Well, especially the shadow texture. And then there's the reflection on the window one (which is just above the black&white shirtless ka-thunk one).

Um yes, I love these sorts of things, probably way too much.

And if you happen to be in Florence between May 26 and June 21 there will probably be an increase in photos of you. :)

edit: Also, it was amazing to notice how different you look with just different hairstyles, shades and hats.

Yeah, that one with the shadowy texture, I dig that one too. I was in the audience at a weird burlesque show where they were projecting strange light on the stage and all around the room, and some photographer guy snapped that one, unbeknownst to me at the time. I was busy looking at boobs.

I definitely won't be able to make it Florence at that time, but thanks for mentioning it anyway! Sometimes those things actually do work out and I always get a big kick out of it.

A photographer guy that's a friend, or just a photographer guy? That's pretty cool, to be seen as significantly visually interesting, enough to take their camera off the boobs and onto you (and then tell you about it). (I'm so envious now. But only kinda.)

Ok. Hmmm... I should do a post to all my European friends...

No, weirdly, I didn't know the guy or know he was taking my picture, and then the next night at another weird event in the same big festival, they were projecting random photos from previous nights on a big screen, and a friend of mine saw the picture of me and noted the photographer's info and gave it to me, so I e-mailed the photographer and asked for the photo and he sent it to me. I love how stuff works out like that sometimes.

You are by far the most cartoony of all my friends. This is not a bad thing in any way.

Also, I was under the impression that a person's eyes don't change size as they grow older; that they are the biggest they get when you are born. That said, how the hell did you avoid looking like an alien baby? I think maybe you had eyeball augmentation at some point. Fess up, man. I'm on to you.

Also also, your hair at Ben and Corri's wedding was an architectural masterpiece. Master of Product!
